For karma!

It's so satisfying to translate 7 short stories in a go, and 10 in total.
I think my google translate skill has improved very fast!
HA!

A few of them made me quite confused, since it was written in some kind of a local Chinese dialect and in simplified Chinese.
My eyes and brains are still spinning.

And I feel happy that it's done pro-bono for a friend.
She has another 60 of these to translate and I can totally feel her pain.
Hope my small amount of effort can be transformed into good karma!

Now I must fall into my longed slumber...
ZZZzzzzz.....

Practising VIOLIN

That's right, you didn't misread.
I was practising violin for about 2 hours today, just randomly dug up my sister's old concertos and some new stuff I downloaded from IMSLP.
Surprisingly my violin skills have improved throughout the years.  I remember having a hard time reading Kreisler's Praeludium and Allegro, but now I can read it a lot smoothly and precisely.  Bruch is a lot easier as well and runs are automatic!  Guess those arpeggio practising really paid off! XD
Unfortunately my left ear still can't stand the stupid violin shrieking, and has muted a bit now with a minor ring.
I also realize my carbon fibre al cheapo violin bow is very loud compared to the wooden bow, but there's little spiccato control on that thing.  I would still prefer a wooden bow regardless!

Another reason why I have to pick up the violin is because I'm getting hired as violin 2 in Peterborough more than on viola.
It's not all bad, since I'm usually seated with George and it's great to learn some violin orchestral stuff.

Back and again

Back and somewhat adjusted for jetlag.
After hearing New York Phil in Taipei, I'm pumped to do more practising!
And I was told that Hong Kong Sinfonietta usually have auditions in June, so maybe I should shorten my stay next year to May till end of June.
If 2 months aren't enough to do the renos in my family apartment, I guess I can stay till July.
Haven't spent summer in Hong Kong without air condition for a long time, it's just too hot for anything to survive...
And maybe I'll spend some time in Taipei as well, since I'm already there.

My biggest concern is bringing Daemon over during such a humid season, and finding an emergency luthier to do any kind of work on him just gets on my nerves.
Hopefully I'll have David do some adjustments on Daemon before next year comes.
It's such an expensive move.
In both the sense that I'd be spending a lot over there, and giving up so much in Toronto.

Huh

Hmm.... just got a few gig calls just when I'm mentally ready to leave the scene here.
What exactly is karma trying to tell me?
That I should resist temptations and keep on with my new path?
Or stay on my current path and expect no change since I have random opportunities here?

Puzzling.

Making changes

I'm not upset at all that I was too nervous and lost the audition.
I'm actually opened to the idea of moving out of my comfort zone and venture to the Asian market!
My ideal world would be living in Taipei and having a performing job there, but since I'm not Taiwanese landing a government funded orchestra job is next to impossible.
So I'm thinking of starting out in Hong Kong and see what can be offered there.
At least it's warmer there and I have close family nearby still.
My plan is to go back to Hong Kong for 6 months in January 2019 and spend that time making connections.
And during 2018 I can see if my Chinese contacts here can help me make connections over there.
Then I can at least cover my spendings for the duration of my stay.

One door closes, another Doraemon door opens!

我要離開你!

今天是與 Bell 的決裂日.
從 92 年開始用的電話終於從地線轉化成數碼線, 上網和電視也轉到別家.
時代跑的好快!  我老了!  XD
